A Miss-shapen Piece - When You Just Don't "Fit in"

Hey, friends! Here is the first post in the promised series on being a teen in this crazy world. First things first, though!

I am the farthest thing ever from perfect (hence the blog name :)). I do not claim to be an expert on any of the subjects that I will be writing on. I struggle, pout and whine. I get mad and I yell at people. (especially siblings) Yep, I am NOT perfect. I want to learn from these posts,  just like you do. Please compare things that say to the Bible, because I get stuff wrong.

That being said... Lets go!!!

Lets face it. Being a teenager is hard. No matter who you are or where you are, I am almost sure that you have struggled with not "fitting in." How do I know? Because I have been there and still find myself there at times. I feel inferior. I feel like others somehow are gliding through this stage in life and I am the only one struggling. I feel like a piece to a puzzle that fits nowhere. A miss-shapen piece. It is deformed;defective. It is unfit for any purpose other than being cast away and forgotten.

And so have you.

But that is ok. Perhaps not fun, but ok. In fact, it is better than ok, it is a gift from God. Let me say it again: Not fitting in is a gift from God. It is a gift because it means that He has a purpose for you.  It means that He has charted a different course for your life.

Look at the reasons why you don't fit in. Take time right now to make a list. It may be that you don't wear the same clothes as others. Perhaps you don't listen to the same music, watch the same movies. Maybe you are homeschooled and your friends are public schooled. Make a list. Use details. Now, look at it. You will probably notice that the majority of things on that list are things that you are glad you do not do.

If you don't fit in because you refuse to comprise your standards, would it be better to do so and fit in? Goodness no!!!

When I realized this, I felt a whole lot of freedom. I knew that there was a reason that I was different. God has called me to a life of being different. And that is ok. I wouldn't have it any other way. Now, this doesn't mean that I fit in and feel comfortable. I still feel like I stick out like a sore thumb! But I have learned:

1. I am not a miss-shapen piece.
2. I am being used right where I am.
3. God has a big plan for my life.
4. I am not gonna fit in when I am older so why should I now?
5. Everybody else feels the same way.

When you feel like you don't fit in and are unimportant or useless, look at the things that make you feel this way. Would you really change them?

Here is a great quote. Yep, it is by Doctor Seuss. Check it out:
So, forget about fitting in and live the life that you are called to live. The darkness is never desspelled by a light that is trying to look like darkness!

  1. Hi Delaney! Great post! Something you may want to revise is your font and size. I was trying to read your words of wisdom, but I was having a super hard time reading it because your font is kinda loopy and very small. I do love your font however, you may consider just making it larger.

    God's Blessings Girlfriend!,

  2. Beautiful thoughts, sister! And just so you fit in beautifully with the Kingdom of God. And that's what counts! :o)

  3. Awesome post Delaney! So true!! Can't wait to hear more of what you have to say!
(As a teeny side-note, I agree with Dolly about the font.)
